We know some golfers using Samsung + Galaxy Watch can face issues when using Hole19. Below are some tips, settings, and workarounds that can help you enjoy a more seamless experience.
Allow Background Activity
On your phone:
Open the Galaxy Wearable app → Watch settings → Apps → Hole19.
Toggle on Allow background activity.
Hole19 needs to keep running in the background so your phone and Galaxy Watch stay synced during a round.
If background activity is off, the app may pause when not open on the screen, which can interrupt GPS tracking, shot tracking, or score syncing.
Allowing background activity ensures Hole19 can keep collecting and transferring data while you play, even if you switch to another app or lock your phone.
This will use more battery, but it helps prevent the app from closing unexpectedly. We recommend starting your round with your watch fully charged (100%). In this case, you should not experience battery issues during a standard 18-hole round.
Update the App on the Watch
Updating Hole19 on your phone does not update the app on your watch automatically.
If you’re experiencing syncing problems, the first thing to check is whether the app versions match on both devices. Different versions on phone and watch can cause connection issues.
To update on the watch:
Open the Play Store app on the watch.
Search for Hole19.
-
Tap Update.
Activate Location Services
Go to Watch settings → Location and tap:
- App Permissions → Hole19
- Make sure to select While using app → Turn on Use Precise Location
Go back to Location by swiping right twice and:
- Scroll down to Location Accuracy
- Turn on Improve Location Accuracy
Display Settings on the Watch
Go to Watch settings → Display and check the following:
Toggle on Always On Display
Toggle on Raise wrist to wake
Toggle on Touch screen to wake
Screen time out → set to 30 seconds or 1 minute
Show last app → set to within 1 hour
How to Return to Hole19 if You Leave the Screen
If you leave the Hole19 screen during play, you can quickly return by tapping the Hole19 notification icon that appears at the bottom of the watch screen.
Important: This icon only appears if notifications are enabled for Hole19.
To activate notifications:
Open Settings on your watch
Scroll down to Notifications
Tap App Notifications
Scroll to Hole19 and make sure Allow notifications is on.
With these configurations, you should get a smoother experience using Hole19 with your Samsung phone and Galaxy Watch.
