Match Play is a game format where players or teams compete hole by hole, rather than counting total strokes. The objective is to win each hole by completing it in fewer strokes than your opponent. The player or team that wins the most holes wins the match.
HOW TO SELECT A GAME MODE
- From the Play Golf tab, select the course where you want to play, then tap Play Golf.
- On the Round Settings screen, under Format, tap Mode and choose your preferred Game Mode (Singles, Four-Ball, or Foursomes).
- Once selected, the app will save your choice and return to the Round Settings screen.
- Choose whether you want Net Scoring enabled, and adjust the HCP Allowance if needed.
- Tap Continue when ready.
- On the next screen, make sure to select the correct Starting Tee, then tap Save.
- Add your Round Players, and finally tap Start Round.
Game Modes are available for Premium members and include three formats: Singles, Four-Ball, and Foursomes. Only the round creator needs to have a Premium subscription.
HERE’S HOW EACH FORMAT WORKS:
1. Singles
Two individual players compete against each other on a hole-by-hole basis. Each player plays their own ball, and the goal is to win more holes than the opponent. The player who wins the most holes wins the match.
2. Four-Ball
A team format with two players on each side. Each player plays their own ball, and the team’s score for each hole is the lower of the two players’ scores. The team that wins the most holes wins the match.
3. Foursomes
Another team format with two players per team, but only one ball is used. Teammates alternate shots, for example, Player A tees off, Player B hits the next shot, and so on until the hole is completed. The team that wins the most holes wins the match.
MATCH PLAY HANDICAP

CONCEDE A HOLE
During a round, each team has the option to concede a hole to their opponents, meaning they voluntarily acknowledge that the other team has won that hole without finishing it.
To do so, simply tap ‘Concede Hole’ (top right) on the scoring screen.
BUDDIES: IS THE ROUND ADDED TO THE HOLE19 PROFILE?
Once you’ve completed and saved your round, your buddy (or buddies) will get an email with the option to ‘Add this round to your profile’ so everyone can see the results in their Performance tab.
They just need to open the email, tap ‘Add to My Rounds’, and follow the steps.
