There are several factors to consider if your device’s battery does not last an entire round:
1. Battery aging diagnosis
All rechargeable batteries are consumable components that become less effective as they chemically age. For iPhone 6 and above, iOS 11.3 and later add features to show battery health and recommend if a battery needs to be replaced. These can be found in Settings > Battery > Battery Health. The same feature is available on your Apple Watch with WatchOS 7 or above.

2. Understanding what might be consuming battery other than the running app
- Do you have any other apps consuming GPS in the background? Please go to your iPhone Settings > Privacy > Location Services > and check if there were other apps using your location recently. The colour of the "location arrow" beside the apps will provide you with that information:
- Do you have any other apps counting heart rate, steps, and other health information?
- If you are receiving notifications from other apps, it is usually indicative that you have other apps using WiFi or Mobile Data.
3. Concerns to have if your device’s battery has a poor performance
Battery drain is also a consequence of a constant GPS connection for accurate distances. You can try some of the following battery-saving tips:
- Closing all running apps on your iPhone;
- Charge your devices fully before each round;
- Turn off Wi-Fi/Mobile Data;
- Reduce the screen brightness;
- Lock your screen between each shot.
Please note that using the GPS from your Apple Watch heavily increases battery consumption. From a full charge, you can expect an 18-hole round of golf to consume between 60% to 70% of Apple Watch’s battery on more recent models (Series 6 and above). Keeping the iPhone in your pocket during the golf round will maximize Hole19’s capabilities with the Apple Watch, including battery life. Leaving the iPhone in your bag or in your cart causes pairing disruption between your devices and this will trigger the constant search for a connection between your iPhone and Apple Watch, causing battery drain.
From our experience, the biggest influence on battery consumption is the device’s battery health. If all else fails, please consider upgrading to a newer device, especially if you own an iPhone X or below, or an Apple Watch Series 5 or below. If you own a recent device, please consider replacing the battery.
