If you’re a Premium PRO golfer and want to see how to keep scores and stats from your wrist, head to this article to learn how to make the best out of your smartwatch experience.
Before starting:
-
- Hole19 for Apple Watch requires at least watchOS 8, and it's optimised for Apple Watch Series 5 and above.
- Make sure that your devices have a solid Bluetooth connection. Click here for help with device connection.
- Make sure your Hole19 app is updated to the latest version. To do this, go to the App Store, search for Hole19, and tap Update (if the app is already up to date, you’ll see the Open button instead). When you update the app on your iPhone, it should automatically update on your Apple Watch. If it doesn't, open the App Store on your Apple Watch and repeat the process mentioned above.
You'll always need your iPhone to start a golf round and save it. However, you can use only the Apple Watch during the rest of the round.
On your iPhone
-
- Launch the Hole19 app and select the golf course where you want to play. Tap the blue Play Golf button;
- Select the number of holes you wish to play. This will bring you to the Round Setup screen;
- Set the Input Mode to GPS ONLY and fill in the details for Starting Tee and Handicap;
- Once everything is set, tap the blue Start Round button at the bottom of the screen. You’re ready to go!
On your Apple Watch
-
- When you tap Start Round on the iPhone, Hole19 will automatically open on your watch. In case it doesn't, click here.
- The "Start a Round on your iPhone" screen may appear momentarily. If you keep seeing this screen please check this.
-
-
You'll see the Distances screen once the app is correctly started on your Watch. This screen displays the hole numbers on the left and the distances to the back, center, and front of the green on the right. Below the front distance, you’ll find the Par and Stroke Index of the hole, while the GPS Accuracy icon is shown above the hole number on the left.
Note that the Shot Tracking button (bottom left) and the Maps button (bottom right) are also visible, but you’ll need a Premium subscription to access this information.
-
-
- You can choose the GPS Source by swiping right. If you enable the Watch GPS toggle (turning it blue), the app will use the GPS from your watch. If the toggle is off (grey), the app will use the GPS from your phone, which you should keep with you during the round (or at least within 15 yards).
-
- You have 4 different ways of changing holes:
1 - Scroll through the numbers on the left of the screen;
2 - Swipe left once and tap 'Next Hole';
3 - Swipe left twice and select the hole number;
4 - Use the Watch Crown. Swipe right once to enable the Watch Crown and toggle it On (turn it blue).
FINISH ROUND
You can finish the round on your watch, but you'll always need to return to your iPhone to save it properly. If the connection between the devices is unstable, please return to your iPhone before finishing the round on your watch. If everything is working correctly, the app should display the last hole played.
To finish the round on your iPhone, tap the white bar at the bottom of your screen to open the tray with the menu. Then, select Finish Round and tap the grey Save Round button.
Additional Tips for Getting the Most Out of Hole19
Watch GPS and Battery Consumption
Using the GPS from your Apple Watch significantly reduces your watch’s battery life. From a full charge, you can expect an 18-hole round to consume between 60% to 70% of your Apple Watch’s battery. To minimize battery consumption during your round, close any other watch applications you're not using. Click here for further tips on maximizing battery life.
Wake Screen on Wrist Raise
For a better experience with the app, we recommend enabling the Wrist Raise option, which allows you to return to our app easily. To do this, open the Settings app on your Apple Watch, go to Display & Brightness, and then turn on Wake on Wrist Raise.
