Flyover View provides a bird’s-eye view of the hole, so you can see how far it is to the green, to a hazard, or to any point you choose using the Dispersion/ Target icon.

What's on the Flyover Screen
Everything you need during the hole sits around the edges of the map.
- Top left: The Plays Like button, and below it your distances. You see the distance from where you are standing to the Target, and from the Target to the centre of the green.
If Plays Like is on, you see the playing distances alongside the straight ones. - Bottom left: The Shot Tracker.
- Top right: The Flag button, the Notes button, the Live Play, and the Quick Actions button.
-
Bottom: The Distances Tray.
If you have used Hole19 before and are looking for a button that used to sit on the right-hand side of the map, it is now inside the Quick Actions button. Skip to that section.
Move the Target to Measure Any Distance
When you start a round or change holes, the Target lands automatically on the front of the green, or on the dogleg if the hole has one.
Drag the Target anywhere on the map, and you see two distances:
- From your position to the Target
- From the Target to the centre of the green
That is how you measure to a bunker, a water carry, a layup spot, or the corner of a dogleg.
Plays Like adjusts the yardage for elevation, wind and temperature, so you see what the shot actually plays rather than what it measures. It works the same way here: turn it on and the Target distances update. Plays Like is available on Premium and Intelligence. Full details in Plays Like Distance (Premium).
The Quick Actions Button
Everything that used to sit down the right-hand side of the map now lives behind the Quick Actions button in the top right.
Not everything behind Quick Actions is on every plan. Here is what you get on each:
On Free, the paid options still appear in the menu. Tapping one shows you what it does and what it needs. Upgrading turns them on for every round you play.
Inside Settings
Tap Quick Actions, then Settings. This is where you set things for the whole round: your distance units, your scoring mode, whether the round counts for your handicap, and whether the hole changes by itself as you walk.
It is also where you turn on what you see on the map: Plays Like, Club Recommendation, Shot Dispersion Tool, Distance Arcs, Distance to Hazards, Auto-Shot Detection, Auto Zoom and Auto Targeting.
Some of these appear in both places. Tapping one in the Quick Actions menu turns it on and off for the hole you are on. Settings is where you set it for the whole round.
Shot Dispersion: See Your Miss Before You Hit It
The Shot Dispersion Tool draws your likely miss straight onto the map, so you can pick the safer line before you commit to it.
It draws one of two shapes, depending on the shot in front of you:
Hitting to the green: a circle around the Target. That is where your misses are likely to land around the spot you are aiming at. It shows you whether going at a tucked pin leaves you enough room, or whether the centre of the green is the smarter play.
Hitting to the fairway: a line across the hole. That is how far left and right you are likely to miss. It shows you whether the fairway is wide enough to take on with a driver, or whether an iron keeps you in play.
On a par 3 you are hitting to the green straight off the tee, so you see the circle there too.
The shapes come from how golfers playing off your handicap actually scatter the ball, not from your own tracked shots, so they do not get tighter as you track more rounds. And they do not adjust for wind, so on a breezy day picture the pattern a little wider than it is drawn.
Shot Dispersion is available on Premium and Intelligence. To turn it on: tap the Quick Actions button, tap Settings, then turn on Shot Dispersion Tool.
The three green distances
Tap or drag the Distances Tray up from the bottom of the screen for the three green distances at a glance:
- Front of Green
- Center of Green
- Back of Green
Tap the Flag button in the top right to zoom into the green. The button turns blue while it is on. Tap it again to zoom back out.
Turn Distance Arcs On or Off
Distance Arcs are rings drawn across the hole, so you can see at a glance how far you need to hit to reach a landing area or carry a hazard. They start from the tee, extend towards the green, and update as you move the Target.
Distance Arcs are available on Premium and Intelligence during a round. On the Free plan, you can still use them in Course Preview, before you play.
To turn them on: tap Quick Actions, tap Settings, then turn on Distance Arcs.
How are the arcs spaced? The arcs set themselves, you do not enter the distances.
- If the green is more than 150 m/ 150 yd away, the first arc is at 50 m/ 50 yd
- If the green is less than 150 m/ 150 yd away, the first arc is at 25 m/ 25 yd, with an arc every 25 m/ 25 yd after that
- The outermost arc is either 250 m/ 250 yd or your longest club distance, whichever is greater
- What the colours mean. Each arc is colour-coded so you can read the distance without looking at the number:
Notes
Arcs are not available on watches
Distance Arcs work on iOS and Android phones. They do not appear on Apple Watch or Wear OS.
If the distances look wrong
Flyover distances are only as good as the GPS signal. See GPS Accuracy.
