The Handicap Calculator works out your handicap from the rounds you've played, using the difficulty of each course you played them on.

To quickly determine your Handicap using the Hole19 app, follow these steps:
- Open your Hole19 App and tap the Performance tab at the bottom bar;
- Tap Handicap, then Calculate.
You have two options:

From existing rounds
Select up to 20 rounds from your history (toggle the rounds ON or OFF).
Tap Save Rounds to proceed.

Add Score
Fill in all the round details (Round Date, Course, Starting Tee).
The app will automatically fill in the Course Rating. Please make sure it’s correct. If something doesn’t look right, contact us at mapping@hole19golf.com and we’ll do our best to help.
Add your Adjusted Gross Score. Please note that the score must be for an 18-hole round.
Once everything is filled in, your Score Differential (SD) will be calculated, which is your score measured against the difficulty of the tee you played, and you'll be able to select Add Score.
What Happens to the Scores You Add by Hand
When you manually add a score, it can be included in your Handicap calculation.
If the round is one of your 20 most recent handicap rounds:
- It will appear on the Calculate screen.
- The oldest round will be removed from the list.
- The added score will be included in your Handicap the next time you tap Calculate.
All manually added scores will also appear:
- In the rounds list under the Performance tab.
- In the From existing rounds list in the Handicap Calculator.
Please note that manually added scores can’t be edited and won’t have a Round Summary page.
The more rounds you add, up to 20, the more accurate your Handicap calculation will be.
Calculate
When you’re ready, tap Calculate, and there you go!
Your Handicap is ready. You can tap Update Profile so that your Handicap is automatically reflected under your profile, or you can tap the arrow in the top-left corner to go back.

How many rounds do you need to add to receive a Handicap?
We require only one eligible round.

How many of your rounds count toward your handicap?
Depends on how many you have saved:

When adding my scores ‘From existing Rounds’, why are some rounds highlighted and others not?
Only rounds that are eligible for Handicap calculation will be highlighted and available to add.
The following rounds are not eligible and won’t be included:
- Match Play
- Skip Scoring rounds
- Incomplete rounds

What is the Adjusted Gross Score?
Your Adjusted Gross Score is your total score after applying the maximum score allowed on each hole for Handicap purposes.
The maximum score you can post on a hole is a Net Double Bogey: Par + 2 + Handicap Strokes Received
Your Adjusted Handicap determines how many handicap strokes you receive for the selected tees, based on the Slope Rating, Course Rating, and Par.
Example

If your Adjusted Handicap is 7 and you score an 8 on a Par 4 where you receive one handicap stroke, your score for that hole will be adjusted to 7:
4 (Par) + 2 + 1 handicap stroke = 7
So, even though you scored 8, 7 will count towards your Adjusted Gross Score.

I edited a round. Why didn't my handicap change?
Editing a round updates that round's Score Differential right away, but your handicap does not rebuild itself. To pick it up, go to the Performance tab, tap Handicap, then Calculate. Your handicap is then worked out again from your current rounds.
This is worth remembering any time you correct a score after a round has been closed, or fill in a hole you missed while you were playing.

Why did my handicap go up after a good round?
Your handicap is an average of your better Score Differentials across your most recent 20 handicap rounds, and the table above shows how many of them count. Because only the most recent 20 are used, every new round pushes your oldest one out. If the round that dropped off was better than the one that came in, your average gets slightly worse, and your handicap goes up, even though you played well.
There is a second reason worth knowing. A Score Differential is measured against the course rating, which is how difficult the course plays, and not against par. On an easier course, a round that felt like one under your handicap can still produce a Score Differential a little above your current handicap.

Handicap Calculation
Hole19 uses its own handicap calculation, so your Hole19 handicap can differ from the one your golf union or federation gives you. The clearest difference is 9-hole rounds: Hole19 works out a Score Differential from a single 9-hole round and doubles it to an 18-hole equivalent. Official systems also create an 18-hole Score Differential from one 9-hole round, but they work it out differently, so the two numbers will not always match.
